The first session of the EMBRC Technology Webinar will focus on sustainable aquaculture, featuring Vincent Vermeylen, an EMBRC Belgium’s scientific researcher at the Lab of Aquaculture and the Artemia Reference Center (ARC) at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Universiteit Gent (UGent). He will deliver an in-depth presentation on feed and the gut microbiome in aquaculture, highlighting ongoing research efforts at ARC.
The webinar will include three case studies demonstrating innovative approaches to sustainable aquaculture practices:
- Low-trophic aquaculture integrated with wind farms in the North Sea
- Development of a land-based multi-species hatchery, designed to enhance food security through local production of aquatic food resources
- Evaluation of alternative feed ingredients and their effects on shrimp performance
V. Vermeylen will discuss the critical role aquaculture plays in the broader context of the Blue Economy and explore how the EMBRC research infrastructure can support advancements in this essential sector.
Register to gain valuable insights into the future of sustainable aquaculture and its contribution to global food security and environmental sustainability.
