Boosting Marine Training Opportunities
Training and Upskilling Marine Experts

EMBRC promotes training and upskilling of marine researchers and research infrastructures’ staff by facilitating access to marine-related training opportunities.
In particular, training is provided by the Marine Training Unit (MTU) as an EMBRC’s service, run by EMBRC Belgium and hosted by Ghent University (UGent).
The MTU fosters knowledge transfer and lifelong learning opportunities in marine biological sciences and the blue bioeconomy through advanced and specialised trainings, while promoting the use of digital tools to make training opportunities more accessible and available worldwide.
The Marine Training Unit provides a range of services through its Portal, including a searchable global catalogue of ocean and marine training opportunities as well as internship opportunities. By aggregating these opportunities using international standards and easy-to-search tools, the MTU is useful to identify trainings that meet one’s needs.

IMBRSea
The Marine Training and Education Unit coordinates the International Master of Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea) Programme. EMBRC’s flagship graduate programme is organised by 11 leading European universities:
- Ghent University (Belgium) -coordinator
- University of the Algarve (Portugal)
- University of Oviedo (Spain)
- Sorbonne University (France)
- University of Western Brittany (France)
- Atlantic Technological University (Ireland)
- University of the Basque Country (Spain)
- Polytechnic University of Marche (Italy)
- University Côte D’Azur (France)
- University of Gothenburg (Sweden)
- University of Bergen (Norway)

To address constant evolving training needs, the Marine Training Unit has also implemented its E-learning platform, Ocean Training, which hosts EMBRC and other stakeholders training courses providing flexible learning opportunities to address new technological advancements.
Boosting Capacities in Marine Science

EMBRC recognises the importance of bringing training opportunities to stakeholders within the research sector around the world.
Through the Marine Training Unit and the EMBRC network of marine stations and research organisations, we hope to lead the current and future needs of marine science by boosting capacity and knowledge transfer for all communities in the marine research sector and the sustainable Blue Economy.
