What is EMBRC Norway ?

EMBRC Norway is the Norwegian node of EMBRC – a pan-European research infrastructure made up of a network of research organisations and marine stations across Europe that accelerates marine biology and ecology research through its knowledge, expertise, and services.

Norway joined EMBRC in 2014. Through its partners, it can offer researchers access to seven marine sites. They can provide access to unique marine biological resources, collections and facilities as well as a wide range of services to national and international scientists from research institutions and industry. Its primary focus is on driving the development of sustainable blue biotechnologies, which are crucial for addressing food security and environmental challenges.

How EMBRC Norway can support researchers

The infrastructure can grant access to unique marine biological resources, facilities, marine observatories, organism collections, culturing facilities, experimental and monitoring equipment, model organisms, and biobanks. It offers comprehensive support for fundamental research in marine life sciences, including molecular and cellular biology, ecology, and bioinformatics.

The Norwegian infrastructure allows researchers to access a wide range of marine sites. Visiting researchers can use EMBRC Norway’s analytical instruments, research vessels and sampling equipment. The convenient location of the ecosystems and equipment available make it easy to bring animals (including deep-water species) into the aquaria alive for study.
