Position: The University of Vigo offers an open position for management and communication tasks in a EU project within the field of Marine Resources. The successful candidate will join a new research group at the University of Vigo and will enroll in highly competitive multi-disciplinary research activities.


Job Description: 

The successful applicant will join a team of researchers to develop managerial and outreach activities within a ERC project on marine resources and the environment. This is a highly multidisciplinary project that addresses scientific questions from an ecological, social and an economic perspective. The successful candidate will be in charge of the Project Management Work Package, and will help researchers through supporting activities and procedures to fulfill commitments and communicate results. The position involves research outreach and dissemination, as well as group support and coordination. Some specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Be the main responsible for the administrative and financial well functioning on the project coordinating with personnel at the University, the regional and national governments and at the EU-ERCEA;

Process paperwork to manage grants, cooperative agreements, contracts and other partnership materials;

Manage task lists, track deliverables and next steps from meetings and workshops and help organize project execution;

Assist with writing research proposals, developing project budgets, doing the annual operating financial projections, and grant reporting;

Coordinate recruitment, hiring and appointments for staff, post-doctoral scholars and interns;

Support visiting scholars, including facilitating visa applications, booking travel and other logistics;

Schedule and coordinate group travel, meetings, workshops and events, including developing agendas, sending event invitations, handling reimbursements and coordinating meeting logistics;

Communicate research results and analysis to diverse audiences through developing new content for websites, an active social media stream, and other media outlets.


Minimum Qualifications:

At the time of recruitment the candidate should have:

A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, environmental science or a related field;

2 years of international project managment experience and a proven track record of excellence in administrative and logistical support. The successful candidate will be responsible for all the paperwork related to administrative and financial reporting of the project and it is strictly required that he/she has held those responsibilities in previous positions.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish, including experience writing to a diversity of audiences;

Excellent computer skills including fluency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Docs, Gmail, Project management apps, Google drive and Google Calendar.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in EU Framework Programs and/or H2020 projects administration;

Experience with centralized systems used by Universities or similar academic institutions for financial management, human resource management or purchasing;

Master’s degree in business administration, economics, environmental science or a related field

Familiarity with public administration procedures in Spain (CSIC, Universities, Regional Agencies, and others);

Experience in research outreach, organization of events, social media and other communication tools;

Experience in communication in English, contributing to reports and deliverables, deliver presentations, and communicate scientific concepts for diverse audiences in social media and the press;

Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with academic staff, NGO and government partners and to work effectively as part of a highly collaborative research team;

Proficiency in Galician;

Pro-active personality, detail focused, team builder, and enthusiast for embarking in new projects.


Salary and Benefits: 

This is a 1-year contract that can be renewed upon performance (up to 5 years).

Salary level commensurate with qualifications, in the range of 18.000- 24.000€ gross.

Start date November 2016.

The position includes ad hoc training in specific managerial skills and career development initiatives.
